Ref Watch: Colchester United

30 December 2013

Charles Breakspear has been appointed match referee for MK Dons’ clash with Colchester United on New Year’s Day.

The Surrey-based referee only began his Football League career this season and has yet to take charge of a game involving the Dons. This will be Breakspear’s fifth Sky Bet League 1 clash.

In his 14 appointments this season, Breakspear has shown six red cards which has already equalled the number he handed out in his 26 Blue Square Premier League games last season. Two of those six sendings-off came in Gillingham’s 1-0 victory over Carlisle United back in November with  Lee Leon Legge then men given their marching orders. He has also given 56 yellow cards this campaign.

Most recently, Breakspear was the man-in-the-middle for the 1-1 draw between Notts County and Bristol City. That afternoon he dished out a season-high eight yellow cards, five of which were to Robins players.

The full list of officials for Wednesday is as follows:
Referee: Charles Breakspear (Surrey)
Assistant Referees: Ian Dudley (Nottinghamshire) and Danny Gratton (Staffordshire)
Fourth Official: Ollie Yates (Staffordshire)
