Loan round-up

Izale McLeod scored his first goal for Northampton Town on Saturday but he couldn’t prevent them suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.

McLeod started and played the full 90 minutes up-front for the Cobblers and after forcing Wanderers’ ‘keeper Matt Ingram into two good saves in the first half he netted his fifth goal of the season five minutes into the second period.

A neat finish from close-range range after Luke Norris had flicked on a cross from Chris Hackett, McLeod’s goal brought Aidy Boothroyd’s side to within a goal of their Buckinghamshire opponents but two late goals saw them slip to their 11th League defeat of the season; a record which keeps them rooted to the foot of the Sky Bet League 2 table.

Boothroyd, later, left Northampton Town and a replacement has yet to be named. McLeod and the Cobblers do, still face a difficult trip to Burton Albion on Boxing Day.

Elsewhere, right-back Jon Otsemobor was an unused substitute for Tranmere Rovers in their 2-1 loss to Gillingham last Friday night.

The 30-year-old had started the previous two League matches – missing the FA Cup trip to Peterborough Untied through injury – but was taken out of the starting line-up by Ronnie Moore for the visit of the Gills.

Otsemobor watched on as former MK Dons striker Ryan Lowe scored his 14th goal of the season but the Liverpudlian’s sweet strike wasn’t enough to secure the Rovers a crucial victory.

Otsemobor will now be hoping to force his way back into the line-up for Tranmere’s Boxing Day clash with Shrewsbury own at Greenhous Meadow.
