Karl: We deserved nothing

29 December 2013

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson admits his side deserved nothing out of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford at Griffin Park.

The Dons were beaten for the first time in five games earlier today by a Brentford side who moved to the top of the Sky Bet League 1 table, courtesy of goals from Clayton Donaldson, Marcello Trotta and Sam Saunders.

Right-back Lee Hodson did grab a consolation goal mid-way through a spirited last half an hour from the Dons but manager Robinson conceded that his side can have no complaints with coming away empty-handed.

Speaking to the media after the game, the 33-year-old manager said: “’Im not going to come out and defend today because we were poor for an hour; all of us, me included and we’ve got to take responsibility for that.

“We didn’t start well. The first goal was a comedy of errors and that’s unlike us because that was the first goal we had conceded in five games; I’m not sure where that’s come from.

“Don’t take anything away from Brentford, though, because they played really well and were by far the better team. For the first hour we were very open and very unlike our usual selves.

“For us to have to away games over the space of three days is very difficult. Don’t take anything away from Brentford, though, because they played really well and were by far the better team. For the first hour we were very open and very unlike our usual selves.

“In the last half an hour were much better and we dominated the game. It was just one of those days for us, we’ve just got to make sure we move on from here and recover in the right way.

The defeat was the side’s first of the month and sees them slip one place to 11th in the table and remain seven points adrift of the playoff places. Robinson, though, insists December will still go down as a good month.

He added: “It still has been a good month. If you take that one hour today out of this period of games, I’d have been delighted with this calendar month. If you’d have offered us six points out of nine with over Christmas, with a home game still to come, I think we’d have taken that.

“But, that’s it now, let’s turn January into just as positive a month as December was. We’ll take some highs out of 2013 but I’m looking forward to 2014. I look forward to taking this club forward.”
