International Dons

2 December 2013

MK Dons’ young defender Danny Collinge played 90 minutes for England Under-16s in their Victory Shield decider with Scotland last week.

The Young Lions had won the coveted shield each of the last 12 years but they were bravely beaten by the ‘Auld Enemy’ in the winner-takes-all match in Perthshire, thanks to a first-half goal from Celtic striker Calvin Miller.

The young forward pounced on a mistake from England goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman on 28 minutes to prod the ball home and subsequently win the game.

Collinge, though, can hold his head up high after an assured performance at the heart of the England defence, in what was only his second international appearance. The 14-year-old earned his first England cap two months ago when he was a substitute in the Young Lions’ win 1-0 over Wales in October.

Collinge is one of seven home-grown Dons players to have received international recognition this season.
