Ref Watch: Shrewsbury Town

2 August 2013

Gary Sutton will take charge of MK Dons’ Sky Bet League 1 opener away at Shrewsbury Town tomorrow afternoon.

The Lincolnshire-born referee has been officiating since 2002 but will begin only his third season as a Football League regular at Greenhous Meadow this weekend.

During his time as a Football League official, Sutton has taken charge of six games involving the Dons, most recently the side’s 2-1 defeat to Brentford in April 2012. In total, Sutton has shown 26 yellow cards in matches involving the Dons, 14 of which have been to Dons players. Sutton has never brandished a red card in a Dons fixture.

Last season, Sutton refereed 32 games and, in the process, booked 88 players while sending off only eight. Sutton also took charge of a World Cup qualifier between Luxemburg and Azerbaijan this past March.

Saturday’s list of officials is as follows:

Referee: Gary Sutton (Lincolnshire)
Assistant referees: Geoff Law (Leicestershire) and Bob Roberts (Lancashire)
Fourth official: Paul Graham (Manchester)
