International round-up

12 August 2013

Dons youngsters Giorgio Rasulo and Hugo helped England Under-17s to a fifth place finish in last week’s Nordic Tournament.

Rasulo, 16, and Hugo, 14, both featured in three of England’s four matches in the annual international tournament held, this year, in Norway.

The two starlets helped the Young Lions get off to a winning start in their first group game against Faroe Islands last Monday, with Hugo playing the full match and Rasulo entering the contest as a 55th minute substitute.

The next day, Rasulo netted a 76th penalty to cancel out Finland’s first-half strike in England’s second match of the tournament and take the contest to penalties, as per tournament rules. The Young Lions reigned victorious in the nail-biting shootout with both Rasulo and Hugo netting their spot-kicks, the latter securing the win with his.

England, then, ended the group stage with a 1-1 draw against hosts Norway to set up a fifth-six place decider with, ironically, the Norwegians. Hugo started the match, playing 55 minutes, while Rasulo once again was brought on as a second half substitute.

Neither Hugo or Rasulo featured in the fifth-sixth place decider, where England ran out 4-0 winners.

Both players will now return to Milton Keynes ahead of their respective Under-18 and 16 fixtures this weekend.
