Under-18s 5 Olney Town Colts 1

29 April 2013

MK Dons Under-18s beat Olney Town Colts 5-1 on Sunday afternoon, in an end of season friendly at Woughton on the Green.

Despite finishing their League campaign two weeks ago, the Young Dons, who were without trio Dele Alli, Brendan Galloway and Giorgio Rasulo due to first team commitments, took on the Milton Keynes and Border Counties Youth League side looking to end their year on a high.

Their opponents, Olney Town Colts, hadn’t lost a game all season in the Milton Keynes and Border Counties League and they surprised Mike Dove’s side by taking the lead in the 25th minute.

The Dons, who had started slowly, almost responded instantly from the penalty spot after Will Summerfield (pictured) was tripped in the area following a driving run but the winger’s effort was well saved by the Olney ‘keeper.

Kabongo Tshimanga then saw an effort blocked on the line for the home team, before he netted the inevitable equaliser seven minutes before the break by guiding a deep cross passed the ‘keeper.

Not content with going into half time level, the Young Dons pushed for a second and they found it through Tshimanga once again, who made no mistake with his penalty after Jon Osae was upended.

At the break, Director of Youth Dove asked for more energy from his team, who had played the 45 minutes at a relatively lacklustre pace.

His team, though, responded soon after the re-start and they grabbed a third seven minutes in through substitute Jacob Daffern, who found the far corner with a curling right-footed shot from 18 yards.

Despite the scoreline, Olney Town did enjoy spells throughout the game which caused problems for the home team but the win was secured in the 85th minute when Ben Grant fired in from the edge of the box.

Summerfield then made up for his first half penalty miss by squeezing home a fifth just before the whistle to sign off the 2012/13 season in style for the Under-18s.

Afterwards, Director of Youth Dove reserved praise for his side’s opponents. He said: “I would just like to say a huge thank you to the Olney Town players, staff and supporters for playing their part in a great match.

“We were all really impressed with the attitude and ability of the team and it was clear to us why they had gone unbeaten all season in their League.”
