Loan round-up

29 April 2013

While Gary MacKenzie helped Blackpool secure their Championship safety on Saturday afternoon, Tom Flanagan couldn’t prevent Barnet from avoiding the drop.

MacKenzie, who has made 11 appearances for the Tangerines since joining them on loan at the beginning of March, played 90 minutes as Paul Ince’s side made sure of their place in England’s second tier next season by picking up three points at home to Derby County.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher put the Lancashire outfit ahead on Saturday before Rams’ midfielder Ben Davies equalised 20 minutes into the second-half. Blackpool, though, claimed the all important victory when Ludovic Sylvestre rifled home from the edge of the area, in stoppage time.

Blackpool still have one game left to complete this season, an away trip to Bolton Wanderers who are looking to sneak into the Championship play-off places.

Elsewhere, Flanagan and Barnet suffered the heart-ache of relegation as they were beaten 2-0 away at Northampton Town.

The Bees needed a victory to steer clear of the drop but after Roy O’Donovan and Luke Gutteridge but the hosts ahead in the second half, results elsewhere meant Edgar Davids’ side would be playing non-League football next year.

Flanagan, who played 90 minutes this weekend, finishes his loan spell with the Greater London Club having made nine appearances and having kept five clean-sheets.
