Loan round-up

22 April 2013

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for MK Dons’ two loanees Tom Flanagan and Gary MacKenzie.

Flanagan’s Barnet earned a huge three points with a win over Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday and as a result Edgar Davids’ side climbed out of the relegation zone.

In the last ever match to take place at Underhill the Bees signed off with at 1-0 win against Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe. Jake Hyde got the only goal of the game just minutes from time before Graham Stack saved a penalty in the 93rd minute to seal the victory.

The drama all centred on Flanagan when his challenge on Bruno Andrade in injury time saw the referee point to the spot. Fortunately for Flanagan though his goalkeeper was able to turn the spot-kick around the post.

The Bees now travel to their final game of the season, away at Northampton, knowing their safety is in their own hands.

On the other hand, MacKenzie and his Blackpool team-mates had a day to forget as they fell to a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

The hosts were in unstoppable form as they carried in a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Will Buckley, Matt Upson and Andrea Orlandi.

The afternoon worsened for the Seasiders immediate after the interval when David Lopez added a fourth before a Dean Hammond own goal gave Paul Ince’s side a consolation goal.

However, Ashley Barnes marked his return from a seven-match ban with two goals in the final 15 minutes to leave the Seasiders reeling. With two games remaining in the Championship campaign. Blackpool will look to bury the result and finish on a high.
