Jon: Time to perform

9 April 2013

Defender Jon Otsemobor is confident the Dons will put on a performance against Swindon Town this evening.

The men from MK1 have a good home record against the teams in the top-six with a 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth the only blip in an otherwise impressive run which has seen them beat Doncaster Rovers, Tranmere Rovers, Sheffield United, Yeovil Town and Brentford at stadiummk this campaign.

And the 30-year-old full-back is hopeful he and his team-mates can claim another scalp tonight, as they look to close the gap on the play-offs to just four points with a respective amount of games left.

Speaking to MK Dons Player, Otsemobor said: “We’ve been very inconsistent throughout the season and I think it’s a matter now of us having to win games and I think the lads are relishing that challenge.

“I’m sure we’ll put on a performance tomorrow night. If you look at our record at home against the top teams we’ve always played well against them and we’ve taken a lot of points off them too. Swindon will be another one of those tough games, they’ve got quality players, but we’re looking forward to it.

“We still believe we can reach the play-offs. The players are buzzing in training and we’re all eager to take three points off Swindon and if we do then we’ll still be in with a chance of finishing in the play-offs.”

If the Dons are to record a third win in four games then they will need another impressive showing from their defence which has kept three consecutive League clean-sheets.

The stalemate with Crawley Town on Saturday meant the side bettered last year’s clean-sheet tally of 18 and Otsemobor praised the his fellow defenders and incentivised them to keep up the good work in order to help the team chase down a play-off finish.

The Liverpudlian added: “It’s been a great achievement. As a back-four or five, including the goalie, we model ourselves off clean-sheets and, as I’ve said before, if you’ve got a strong defence and you don’t concede goals you’ve got better chances at winning football games.

“I wasn’t aware of the record set last season because obviously I wasn’t here but it’s a real positive on our behalf definitely. If we keep getting clean-sheets from now until the end of the season we’ll have a real chance of getting into the play-offs.”
