Despite a brace from Kabongo Tshimanga and a penalty from Giorgio Rasulo, the Dons youngsters fell to a 4-3 defeat to the Rams in front of a bumper crowd in Cranfield.
The Dons fell behind after only two minutes after a Derby midfielder was able to cut out a ball in midfield before feeding through a neat ball for his striker who, at the second attempt, managed to get a shot away which wrong footed Van der Shoot and put the visitors ahead.
It could have been two, 10 minutes later when the referee pointed to the penalty spot, however the Derby youngster could only fire his shot onto the crossbar and the Dons were able to clear.
The miss seemed to spur Micciche’s side on even more to grab an equaliser and they went close on several occasions before the impressive Kabongo Tshimanga beat the offside trap and coolly slotted home past the Derby ‘keeper to bring the Dons level.
Despite the Dons dominance in the first half, County started the second period the brightest testing Dons’ keeper Van der Schoot on several occasions before they won their second penalty of the game, this time making no mistake.
Derby then increased their lead three minutes later to make it 3-1 before Tshimanga’s second pulled one back for Micciche’s team.
Despite the possession and chances, it was Derby who grabbed the next goal. After a cutback from the right hand side and a clever turn, the ball fell to the County left winger who drilled into the net to increase the lead to two once again.
The Dons, though, never gave up and managed to grab a goal late on after Vaughan was fouled in the area; Giorgio Rasulo calmly doing the business from the spot.
Unfortunately it only proved to be a consolation as the visitors went home with the victory; however the Dons’ youngsters did themselves proud in front of a very impressed crowd.
