Karl: Defence will be vital

18 September 2012

Karl Robinson stressed the importance of his defence when he spoke prior to tonight’s clash with Notts County.

The Dons have so far not conceded in the League at stadiummk this season, something which has been crucial in helping Robinson’s side win all three of their opening home encounters.

David Martin has seen only three goals go past him so far this League 1 campaign, which is made even more impressive by the fact Adam Chicksen is the only defender who has been available for every single game due to injuries and suspensions.

The Dons this evening take on a Magpies side who arrive in Milton Keynes sitting in second place and looking to break a 41-year-old club record of games without an away defeat.

Dons boss Robinson knows how tough an encounter tonight’s game will be and believes his back five will be pivotal if his team are to walk away with three points.

Speaking to he said: “We’re confident about tonight. We feel that our performances have been consistent so far this year, I know some results have been very up and down but our levels have been very close to as good as you’re going to get.

“The defence will be vital -  our back four have defended remarkably well so far this season and Dave too has had a great start.

“That’s why you’d have thought, having conceded so few goals and with the striking options we have that we’d be very comfortable but that’s not the case.”

“Football’s a strange game though. Who would put it past a 4-3 or a 5-4 tomorrow because football can twist and turn so easily.

“We’ve got to make sure we can stay very concentrated and we’ve got to make sure we start turning our chances into goals and take the pressure off the back four.”

Tickets are still available for tonight’s fixture and supporters can purchase them from the Box Office at stadiummk or thecentre:mk, by calling 01908 622900 or via our Online Ticket Service.
