Pete Winkelman, Karl Robinson and Shaun Williams visited Oxley Park Academy this week to join in with their celebrations after they were awarded the “UK Outstanding School Team of the Year” award.
The Dons trio visited the school to offer their congratulations after “Team Oxley” received their prestigious award at the Pearson Teaching Awards on Sunday evening.
Oxley Park Academy opened in 2005 with only 100 pupils but has since grown to accommodate over 500 children and its unique style of teaching has led to an improved in results.
Dons Chairman Winkelman told mkdons.com: “This is a massive award and putting it into context, it’s like us winning the FA Cup but I’m not at all surprised it’s come here.
“There is a very different feeling here, the kids are so engaged all the time and it’s a lovely school to be so I’m really proud they’ve won it.
“Oxley Park have done the right thing and it just shows we’re in a place that can really make a difference and they’re definitely an inspiration for the way we want to keep taking our Club forward.”
Both the Chairman and Robinson spoke in front of the whole school in the playground, praising them and the teachers for their hard work and dedication and revealed the Club’s admiration for their success.
The Dons boss and Williams then headed inside to be interrogated by a select group of Year 6 students who asked questions such as “What did you want to be when you were younger?”, “What’s your greatest achievement?” and “Who’s your favourite player?”.
The afternoon was capped off with Robinson and Williams both creating hand plaster casts, a tradition for all those who visit the school.
Headteacher Cathy Higgins added: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the award.
“It’s all been about teamwork from the parents, the staff, the children and the community who have worked together to help us achieve this.
“We’ve had wonderful support from MK Dons. We’re great fans of the Club and it’s lovely they’ve come along today to motivate our children and inspire them for the future.”
