While MK Dons are not in action until Sunday there is no need for a wasted Saturday – get involved in Non-League Day 2012 instead.
Hundreds of non-league clubs across the country – including plenty in the local area around Milton Keynes – are kicking off at the usual time of 3pm on Saturday 13th October, and lots of clubs getting involved with the event by offering cut-price tickets, holding community days, ground-hops and other innovative ways of sharing in the spirit of Non-League Day.
Many local clubs are run solely by volunteers and rely heavily on support from the community for their survival. Just a short hope from stadiummk, Leighton Town are hosting Thatcham, Kidlington are visiting Aylesbury United and AFC Dunstable play host to Hatfield Town – just to name a few!
Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler – who is first-team coach at Kingstonian in the Ryman League – is an ambassador for Non-League Day this year.
Non-League Day founder James Doe says: “It’s great to see so many people getting behind the clubs in their community. So many people put so much time and effort into keeping these clubs and their facilities alive. I’d encourage all Dons fans to take advantage of the free weekend to see some more action that’s taking place on your doorstep.”
