Karl: Embracing Cup meeting

13 November 2012

Karl Robinson spoke to the media after his MK Dons side sealed a meeting with AFC Wimbledon in the Second Round of the FA Cup with Budweiser, following a 6-1 thrashing of Cambridge City.

in early December.mkstadiumThe Dons boss openly expressed his delight at the prospect of a clash between the two clubs when the draw was initially made and since that date both AFC Wimbledon and the Dons have won their replays against York City and Cambridge City respectively, setting up an historic occasion at

Although the Liverpudlian acknowledges that the game might not be to everyone’s taste he revealed his own personal thoughts on a potentially momentous day in football.

Robinson said: “England’s greatest cup competition has produced a very historic moment for Round 2 and I can’t wait.

“Some people took offence to me saying that ‘I danced around the living room’ but I didn’t mean to cause offence; it was purely because I was so excited with the tie. I also got excited when we drew Blackburn and Sunderland earlier in the year.

“When you get big draws in the FA Cup you do get really excited but it’s all about how we conduct ourselves from now. I’m sure both teams will conduct themselves in a professional manner.

“I think it did have to happen (the game). It was inevitable that it would happen at some stage especially when you enter three of the same cup competitions together. It’s happened now and I’m looking forward to it and I don’t mean to offend anybody by saying that but I am.”

The match-up has already captured the attention of the media and many others in and around the sport. Robinson added: “I think the whole of football will be watching because people will be aggrieved, will have anger whereas others will see it as exciting. We just need to make sure we conduct ourselves in the right way in the meantime.

“All I know is that we’re looking forward to it and the group of players in there are really looking forward to it as well. I did hear the AFC Wimbledon manager coming out yesterday with a statement saying that his dressing room are excited and looking forward to it as well.

“We have a wonderful stadium here and it was built for big days – and this game will be one of them.”
