“In Milton Keynes we are very fortunate to have many facilities for the public to use all year round, Feel Good Friday highlights just this. We have teamed up with dozens of local organisations to bring a diverse range of activities, entertainment and information, everything that’s needed to turn inspiration into activity”

The event will enable the launch of a Health & Wellbeing Strategy for Milton Keynes; the overall aim of which is to improve both the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across Milton Keynes. The Health and Wellbeing Board is required to develop a Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Milton Keynes through collaborative working between public agencies and civil society organisations (voluntary and community organisations).

Stand Up Poet and Milton Keynes' Poet Laureate wrote the below poem specifically for Feel Good Friday:

Live well, live long
I know what you're thinking

"Health and Wellbeing, nag, nag,nag
Give up the booze and give up the fags
Don't do this, don't do that
Give up sugar, give up fat.

Exist on nothing but salad and water
I bet you think,I really ought ter
Live like a monk or unsociable hermit
And commit

to a lifestyle of rigorous abstention
Have me flogged like a criminal if I even mention
Chocolate or alcohol or anything fun
That's what you're saying isn't it son?"

Well now you've got all that off your chest
Feel Good Friday isn't here to tell you what's best
We admire and celebrate your lust for life
And we want you to be happy, and free from strife.

We want you to live well
We want you to live long
Live life to the full and for that
It's better if healthy and strong

So we're providing the info for you to peruse
About services and support you might well use
When you find out just how much stuff is out there
For you, your friends and family to share

The choice is yours, we're not here to preach
Everyone is different and each
One should look before they  leap to their lifestyle's defence
A lot of this is just  common sense

Be a little less passive, a bit more active
Small changes add up and being proactive
Puts you in charge which I hope calms your fears.
So open your mind and open your ears.

Being better informed gives you an edge
And while we hope you'll make a new pledge
The choice is yours and not that of your peers
So Iive well, live long for many more years.”
