Milton Keynes Dons have completed the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday defender Jon Otsemobor as a free agent.
Jon, 29, becomes Karl Robinson’s first signing of the new season, putting pen to paper on a one-year-deal.
The pacy right-back played a part in Wednesday’s promotion success last season and has attracted a lot of interest this summer. Jon will offer strength to Robinson’s side in a position that often caused the Dons problems in 2011/12.
Dons manager Robinson said: "Jon’s a guy I tried to sign last summer as part of the Potter deal from Sheffield Wednesday, but that never materialised. I’ve known him since he was a kid so I’ve worked with him before. He was out for most of last season with an injury but I believe, if we can keep him fit, that we have got the best right-back in the League.”
A former Liverpool trainee, Jon made six appearances during his time in Merseyside with his debut coming in a 3-1 League Cup win over Southampton.
After several periods on loan at Hull City, Bolton Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra, Jon signed permanently with Rotherham United in July 2005. Soon after, the defender re-joined Crewe Alexandra where he went on to make over 40 appearances in his second season with Dario Gradi’s men.
In 2007, the Liverpudlian full-back made the switch to Carrow Road, featuring over 100 times for Norwich City, before enjoying a spell with Southampton. Jon’s most recent venture was at Hillsborough where he spent two years in the Owls colours, making 37 appearances.
Jon spoke to mkdons.com after completing a stringent medical and said: “I’ve known Karl for a while so I’m delighted to link up with him and the team.
One of the main reasons why I’ve come here is the style of football, which suits me down to the ground. I can’t wait to get going.”
