Jay O’Shea capped his debut for Chesterfield with a goal, as he helped them to a 2-0 win over high-flying Port Vale.
O’Shea, who has twice featured as an unused substitute for the Spireites, was handed his first chance in Derbyshire by manager Paul Cook and made the most of it after netting in the 37th minute following some neat footwork on the edge of the penalty area.
The Irish-born winger was lively throughout and could have added to his goal tally on numerous occasions; firing over from 18-yards before just missing the target with an audacious lob from his own-half.
Elsewhere, Jabo Ibehre returned to the Colchester United side for their meeting with Oldham Athletic, however he couldn’t prevent them falling to their third loss in a row.
Ibehre played the full game for the U’s and saw both a header saved and fall wide as Joe Dunne’s team slip to 19th in League 1.
In the Blue Square Premier, George Baldock played 90 minutes for Tamworth in their 2-0 defeat to now-top of the league Grimsby Town, while in the Blue Square North Jordan Ivey-Ward was a 74th substitute as Histon were beaten 2-1 by Guiseley.
