Dons face Cobblers

18 August 2012

MK Dons will travel to Northampton Town in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. The draw was made this morning live on Sky Sports’ SoccerAM show when presenters Helen Chamberlain and Max Rushden confirmed the local derby between the two sides.

Northampton Town, managed by Aidy Boothroyd made seven signings during the summer to his Cobblers side that just missed out on relegation from League Two at the end of last season.

One of the summer additions was former-Don Clive Platt, the scorer of the Club’s first hat-trick, who joins another ex-player in Ben Harding and the two along with the rest of the team will be aiming to finish a lot higher in the table than they did last time out.

The Southern Section (East) sees eight teams competing against one another to make it into the second round with the ultimate ambition of reaching the final at Wembley Stadium. The games are played over 90 minutes and if the scores are still even the match is decided on penalties, there is no extra time.
