U23s beaten at Bournemouth

Defeat for Edu Rubio's side in Central League.

29 November 2017

MK Dons Under-23s fell to only their second Central League defeat of the season on Wednesday afternoon, against tough opposition in AFC Bournemouth.

Edu Rubio’s side included a mixture of young professionals and Under-18s - Wieger Sietsma, Sam Nombe and Brandon Thomas-Asante were among those pros who featured in the clash at Canford Park Arena.

England Under-20s international Connor Mahoney put the Cherries ahead just before the break with a strike into the top corner.

Thomas-Asante went close to scoring on a couple of occasions in the first half while Giorgio Rasulo also threatened after the break.

However, the Dons weren't able to find an equaliser and second-half goals from Kyle Taylor and Jaidon Anthony - the former a terrific curling effort - sealed the points for Bournemouth.

Speaking after the game, Rubio said: "We competed very well for most of the game but they were just more clinical than us.

"Nonetheless, it is a great learning experience for our players against Premier League opposition."

Starting XI: Sietsma; Bell, Tapp, Jackson (C), Hope; Kasumu; Sole (Pattison 46), Rasulo (Sorinola 80), Logan (Bird 56), Nombe; Thomas-Asante.

Unused subs: Jones, Wright.
