Report: Under-18s 2-1 Luton Town

Young Dons start with come-from-behind win...

9 August 2021

MK Dons Under-18s kicked off their 2021/22 EFL Youth Alliance season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Luton Town.

Despite falling behind to a Jake Burger goal, the Young Dons secured an opening-day three points thanks to goals from Junior Gyamfi and Ryan Holmes – the latter coming 14 minutes from time.

Visitors Luton opened the scoring on 13 minutes after a clearance fell to the feet of Burger who sent a fierce right-footed shot past Ronnie Sandford from 20 yards.

The Dons, though, drew level midway through the first half when Ed Daffern cheekily directed a Charlie Smith pass into the path of Gyamfi. The midfielder took one touch on the edge of the box before guiding the equaliser into the near corner.

Luton had an effort disallowed for offside before the half-time but it was to be the Dons who would find the crucial third goal with just less than a quarter of an hour left to play.

Daffern was again involved as he collected a long pass forward from Keon Lewis-Burgess and drove deep into the Luton Town half. He found Kyle Boyce who, in turn, slid a ball through to an unmarked Holmes and the striker calmy steadied himself before beating the goalkeeper with an outside-of-the-boot finish to win the game.

MK Dons: Sandford, Smith (c), Waller, Gyamfi, Lewis-Burgess (Scholtz 81) Adelusi, Bombo, Daffern, Holmes, Lucas, Boyce.

Subs: Anthony, Meadows, Medwynter, Troso.

Goals: Gyamfi (26), Holmes (81)
