MK Dons started 2021 with a 3-2 win over Southend United on Saturday afternoon.
Lee Collier’s side would have to come from behind to earn the three points as the visitors took the lead early into the clash.
The Dons, however, were awarded a penalty after a foul inside the box. Ryan Holmes stepped up to the plate, and despite his initial effort being saved, he turned home the rebound.
Holmes netted his second of the clash shortly after the break with an impressive individual goal, before Tommy Blennerhassett came off the bench to convert a well-worked team move.
Southend did grab one back to reduce the deficit and make for a nervous finish, but the Dons stood tall defensively to pick up all three points.
Dons: Carter, Smith, Davies, Bailey (C), Ogundega, Riley, Deall, Rowley, R. Holmes, Jallow, Ilunga.
Subs: Sanford, Blennerhassett, Mann, Waller, Crabb.
