Young Dons overcome Orient

Under-18s extend lead at the top of the table...

18 October 2017

MK Dons Under-18s returned to winning ways with a dominant 3-0 victory away at Leyton Orient.

Bradley Bell (pictured), Recoe Martin and Dylan Asonganyi were on the scoresheet for Edu Rubio’s side, who extended their lead at the top of the FA Youth Alliance South East table to five points.

The hosts fired wide the game’s first chance before Bell produced a fine save out of the Orient goalkeeper soon after – the winger cutting inside and shooting, only for his effort to be tipped over the bar.

Liam Sole then went close with a left-footed shot before having another effort saved on a breakaway before half-time.

The Dons maintained their dominance in the second period and almost broke the deadlock through Bell, whose driven strike from 18-yards out was palmed wide by home goalie.

The second-year scholar was heavily involved all afternoon and he forced another fine save with a curling shot from distance on 59 minutes.

The loose ball found its way to Matthew Sorinola and from the left-back’s cross the Dons deservedly took the lead – Bell the player on the end of his delivery to power home the opening goal. 0-1.

Rubio’s maintained control of the game after taking the lead and with five minutes to play, substitute Martin doubled the Dons’ advantage, firing home after Asonganyi’s effort was brilliantly saved. 0-2.

Some further gloss was added to the scoreline in stoppage-time – Asonganyi the goalscorer, racing through the heart of the Orient defence before confidently tucking the ball away from just inside the area.

After the game, boss Rubio said: “The players delivered a true MK Dons performance – it was attacking and it was daring.”

Unused subs: Pickworth, Sule.
