MK Dons took a point from their trip to Adams Park courtesy of a 2-2 draw with play-off chasing Wycombe Wanderers.

Daniel Harvie put the Dons in front after only 10 minutes when he swept home from Conor Grant’s pass.

Wycombe levelled the scores before half-time through former Don David Wheeler, who then scored a second with 10 minutes played in the second period.

However, Mark Jackson’s men salvaged a point through Jonathan Leko, who fired home from 15 yards with 19 minutes remaining – extending the Dons’ unbeaten run to four games and keeping them 19th in the Sky Bet League One table, now five points clear of the bottom four.

Anthony Stewart was handed his MK Dons debut as Mark Jackson made one change to his starting XI. Sullay Kaikai, back from international duty, missed out through injury, though Zak Jules returned from suspension and was among the substitutes.

Jackson’s side threatened early, with Dean Lewington delivering a cross in from the left - one which wasn’t fully dealt with by the Wycombe defence. The Dons weren’t, however, able to fashion a shot on goal and the hosts cleared their lines.

A minute later, Wycombe went close through Brandon Hanlan but his tame effort, from David Wheeler’s cutback, was easily saved by Jamie Cumming. At the other end, Lewington clipped a ball into Jonathan Leko but his shot on the turn was blocked.

The Dons were rewarded for their positive start, taking the lead with 10 minutes on the clock.

It came from a well-worked move sparked by Josh McEachran and one that resulted in Leko delivering a cross into the box. Leko’s cross wasn’t cleared and Grant, picking up the loose ball, showed great composure to tee up HARVIE, who calmly rolled the ball past Max Stryjek and into the net. 0-1.

Twelve minutes later, though, Wycombe, levelled the scores through former Don WHEELER, who met Joe Jacobson’s corner at the far post and directed his header past Cumming from close range. 1-1.

Stewart got in the way of a strike from Lewis Wing as the home side threatened an immediate second goal. McEachran also prevented an effort from the Wycombe 10 reaching Cumming’s goal.

There was a brief moment where a chance appeared to open up for Jack Tucker following a McEachran free-kick sent towards the back post, but the MK Dons centre-back wasn’t able to get an attempt away.

A break forward from Maghoma on 40 minutes saw the midfielder try his luck from 20 yards out. His strike was blocked, though the ball looped kindly for Eisa, whose goal-bound effort on the volley was kept out by another defensive interception.

The Dons survived several Wycombe corners and free-kicks in the closing stages of the first-half, in order to go into the break all-square. They almost restored their lead five minutes into the second half, but Maghoma’s strike from the edge of the D was just about turned over the bar by Stryjek.

It was the home side, however, who would take the lead on 55 minutes – WHEELER, again, on the scoresheet as he fired through a crowded penalty area, after collecting a loose ball from Lewis Wing’ free-kick. 2-1.

In search of an instant response, the Dons won themselves a corner from which Lewington glanced a header wide of the target. Eisa was then denied in stunning fashion by Stryjek, who somehow managed to keep out the striker’s close-range attempt from Watson’s cross.

There was almost a chance for Harvie on the hour but he failed to connect with Eisa’s clipped cross over to the far post. The Dons kept pushing and eventually levelled the scores in the 70th minute.

LEKO’s first attempt at a dribble into the box resulted in a Grant shot being blocked. Luckily, the MK Dons number 12 had another chance and this time he went alone, shifting away from his man before firing a right-footed shot beyond the keeper, Stryjek. 2-2.

Wheeler headed over for the hosts as he threatened a hat-trick goal to restore Wycombe’s advantage. At the opposite end, Steward headed wide from a McEachran corner.

Will Grigg and Nathan Holland replaced Eisa and Leko as Jackson made his first changes with 10 minutes left to play. One of Wycombe’s substitutes, Nick Freeman, sliced a volley wide as the hosts threatened on 85 minutes.

Jackson made two further changes with three minutes remaining, replacing McEachran and Grant in midfield with Bradley Johnson and Dawson Devoy. Both were straight into the thick of the action, winning 50-50s and preventing the hosts building anything late.

It was the Dons who had the better of stoppage time, in fact, but they were unable to test Stryjek again. They will take a point, though – one which takes them closer to the tally needed to secure safety this season.
