MK Dons scored all five penalties as they progressed into the next stage of the Papa John's Trophy via shoot-out, eliminating Leyton Orient in the process.

It was a game of few chances, in which MK Dons dominated possession and found their way past the Sky Bet League Two side on penalties.

MK Dons made eight changes from Saturday with only Harry Darling, Ethan Robson and Josh McEachran keeping their place in the starting XI.

Franco Ravizzoli was back in goal, with Tennai Watson, Aden Baldwin, Darling, Zak Jules and Brooklyn Ilunga making up the defence ahead of him.

McEachran and Robson sat behind Hiram Boateng and Troy Parrott, with Charlie Brown leading the line for Liam Manning’s men.

After a quiet opening 10-minutes, it was MK Dons who had the first chance of the game, Charlie Brown forcing Rhys Byrne into a good save.

Shortly after, Orient had their first shot on goal through Dan Nkrumah, but Ravizzoli was there to deny the Orient man.

Boateng then broke the offside trap to get on the end of Darling’s pass before finding Parrott inside the area. He crossed towards Brown who looked to have been fouled inside the box, no penalty was given.

Nkrumah found himself unmarked on the edge of the box, but his effort was straight at Ravizzoli.

Ravizzoli then produced a stunning save to keep the scores level as he tipped Sotiriou’s long-range effort onto the crossbar before Jules cleared the danger.

The first chance of the second-half fell the way of Parrott, his effort was comfortably saved by Byrne.

Wood then picked up the ball from distance for the hosts but was unable to keep his effort down.

MK Dons then worked a chance well down the left with Jules and Ilunga combining to create space for the latter. The Academy Graduate then picked out the run of Brown who headed narrowly wide of the post.

Ilunga then done well to create another dangerous chance for MK Dons, with Boateng curling one narrowly wide of the post from range.

The deadlock was almost broken by Harry Smith who dragged his effort wide of the post having been picked out by Harry Smith.

It was Smith who saw his header cleared off the line in the last minute of the game with Martin in the right place at the right time to clear.

The Dons then almost won the tie as Boateng’s effort took a deflection off a defender and looked to beat Byrne in the Orient goal. The keeper, however, managed to get back to tip off the bar.
