MK Dons Women secured their first league victory of the season following a 3-0 triumph over Chatham Town at Stadium MK.
On their Stadium MK return, following the dramatic draw against Oxford United within the league opener, Charlie Bill’s Women produced a three-goal thriller to secure the spoils in the second FAWNL Southern Premier Division fixture of the season.
Building on from their 7-0 cup success in the beginning stage of the League Cup, which cemented their progression into the first-round of the tournament, MK Dons Women sought for all three points to claim what was their first league win of the current campaign.
The success started with an opener from the young forward Lily Dolling, who headed her attempt past the Chatham Town ‘Keeper to break the deadlock at Stadium MK. 1-0
This was the second goal scored in two games for the 17-year-old, who had only joined the Club a week prior to the recent league fixture.
Seven minutes ahead of the interval, Laura Mitchell doubled the lead as a result of a corner set-piece. Catherine Beaver’s flick to the far post landed in the path of Mitchell, who converted from close-range. 2-0
MK Dons sustained their two-goal advantage as the teams entered the break, but it didn’t take long for the score-line to alter following the restart.
Rhianne Rush, who, much like Dolling, opened her scoring account in the previous Cup fixture, increased the tally to three with an audacious attempt from way outside the penalty area.
The precise loft on the strike took it above and beyond the opposition’s goalkeeper, who couldn’t prevent the shot from furthering the lead to 3-0.
At the end of 90 minutes played, MK Dons maintained their clean-sheet to see out the 3-0 victory at Stadium MK. Back-to-back successes were secured, which Charlie Bill’s Women will look to continue in their upcoming mid-week league clash.
