MK Dons Women produced a convincing 7-0 triumph over Selsey at Fairfield’s Sports Hub to secure their progression into the first-round of the FAWNL League Cup.
Although Charlie Bill was absent for this game, his team didn’t cease to produce a remarkable performance whilst under the watch of MK Dons Women’s Coaches Ethan Wallbank and Laura Bright.
An incredible display was further complimented by the avalanche of goals created by the home side, each of which were scored by different players. Allowing seven different names onto the scoresheet, and a first of the season for many of them.
The first-half saw Mollie Coupar open the scoring from the penalty spot within the first ten minutes of the tie. The score-line was doubled soon after when Catherine Beaver headed home her effort on the 20-minute mark. 2-0
Lily Dolling relished in Dons debut delight as the young forward, who signed days prior to the cup clash, netted her first goal in and MK Dons shirt when she slotted the ball past the oncoming Selsey ‘keeper. 3-0
The first 45 minutes of action concluded with a thunderous strike produced by Megan Attenborough, the first summer acquisition for Charlie Bill’s Women. Attenborough unleashed a shot from near 20-yards outside the area, which couldn’t be matched as the ball crashed into the net off the crossbar. 4-0
MK Dons didn’t stop heir goalscoring antics following the interval. Rhianne Rush was the next player to cement her name of the scoresheet with another strike from outside of the area.
5-0
Amy McLean, who was brought onto the field not long after the break, produced the sixth goal for the home side as another effort breached the goal-line with assistance from the crossbar. 6-0
Finally, Sofia Stovold rounded-off the action-packed fixture with the seventh Dons goal. The defender, who was side-lined with an injury for the majority of last season, pounced on an opportunity to tap the ball home following a mistake from the opposition’s goalkeeper. 7-0
An incredible start to the FAWNL League Cup campaign has seen MK Dons Women secure their place in the first-round of the competition.
