MK Dons Women saw their final pre-season friendly fixture end in a 3-1 defeat against FAWNL Northern Premier Division outfit, Derby County.
Tricia Gould, Charlie Bill’s talisman during pre-season, found her way on the scoresheet once again a week ahead of the season opener.
A frantic start to the clash saw the home side take an early lead, but it would be Gould who would level the score-line. The goal-scorer converted a free-kick that she earned following some impressive build-up play to create the chance.
Both teams entered the break at an equal 1-1 score-line, but the last 45 minutes of the pre-season preparations presented a different outcome.
Much like in the first-half, Derby had restored their lead swiftly after the restart. The game continued with MK Dons at a one-goal deficit until County increased their advantage to 3-1 in the 85 minute of the game.
This saw a 3-1 defeat for the travelling team, who will now have full focus on Sunday’s season opener.
MK Dons Women’s Manager Charlie Bill shared his thoughts following the Derby County fixture:
“On reflection, it’s been a really good pre-season in terms of learning. We’ve tried some things that have worked and some things that haven’t, which is ultimately what pre-season is all about.
“There were a lot of positives from today, when it was equal in the first-half I think we had two or three moments when we should’ve punished them and gained the lead.
“Even in the second-half whilst a goal down we still produced those big moments, but we wasn’t able to capitalise. On another day I think we come away from that game with a win, but the nice thing about pre-season is that you don’t have the pressure of achieving three points.”
