MK Dons prepare to face Abingdon United in the Senior Women’s Berks & Bucks FA County Cup final in the hope to bring back silverware to Stadium MK.
Having eliminated Chesham United Women, Penn & Tylers Green Ladies and Reading Women in the rounds prior, the Dons now face just one more obstacle before they can lift the County Cup trophy.
Last season, Charlie Bill’s Women fell short within the second-round of this competition. Alternatively, the current campaign could see a redemption which would be rewarded with silverware if MK Dons were to triumph over Abingdon.
The Milton Keynes based team have conjured a total of 31 goals in the previous three rounds of the tournament. 17-0 was their most substantial score-line, which was displayed at Fairfields Sports Hub against Penn & Tylers.
Charlie Bill and his side will want to draw from their recent successes within the knockout stages of the Berks & Bucks County Cup to reach their goal of the spoils that await the victor.
This fixture will be played at Chesham United Football Club, The Meadow, Amy Lane, Chesham, HP5 1NE.
Tickets for this tie will only be available on the day through card payments alone. Tickets will be priced at £5 per adult and £2 for Under-16s.
THE OPPOSITION
Abbingdon United compete within the Premier Division of the Women’s Southern Region, which is the sixth tier in the Women’s Football League. Although they’re three tiers below MK Dons, Abingdon seem no easy opponent whilst they currently place atop their league table.
During the current campaign, United have collected a total of 36 points from 12 wins whilst two losses amount the 14 league fixtures played so far.
The sixth-tier side have battled their way through Caversham United, Maidenhead United, as well as a first-round walkover to reach the final stage of the tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
Within the Senior Women’s Berks & Bucks County Cup, MK Dons faced Reading Under-23s in the semi-final stage of the competition, who were the same team that eliminated the Dons a year prior.
However, this time around, Charlie Bill’s Women claimed the revenge they sought out for in their 3-0 triumph over the Royals at Fairfields Sports Hub.
Abingdon faced Maidenhead United in the final four teams that battled to take one step closer to the trophy. A narrow contest saw a 2-2 score-line at the conclusion of 90 minutes.
The match was then decided via a penalty shoot-out, which similar to the 90-minute contest, was a close affair. Abingdon raised as victors when they netted all five of their penalties whilst Maidenhead could only convert four.
