MK Dons Women continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win over Billericay Town on Sunday.
Due to the heat, the match was played in three 30-minute periods – each of which saw a single goal scored.
The first half-an-hour period started evenly as both teams working out the conditions. Billericay created a couple of early chances that were all off target before the Dons forced the home keeper into a few routine saves.
It was Charlie Bill’s side who would take the lead, when a cross-field pass found Mollie Coupar (pictured above) inside the area unmarked. Her initial effort was saved but she was able to convert the rebound to give the Dons a lead at the first interval.
Billericay started the second period well and in the 32nd minute, after the ball was played wide, an over-hit cross found its way into the back of the net to level the scores.
MK Dons responded positively, forcing a couple of saves from the Billericay keeper while Laura Bright had a strong case for a penalty turned down when contact was made from behind inside the area.
Seven changes were made during the second third as manager Bill rotated his squad and the effect of that was seen in the final half an hour, when the Dons were completely dominant, playing the majority of it in opposition territory.
Rhianne Rush, Chez Albert and Jade Bell all had big chances to get on the score sheet but it was a trialist, one minute from time, who decided the game.
After receiving the ball midway in the Billericay half, she drove forwards and beat two players before brilliantly finishing across the face of goal to win it for MK Dons.
