Report: Ladies 3-2 QPR

Owen Evans and Charlie Bill’s team all-but-safe...

25 March 2019

MK Dons Ladies all-but-secured their FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division status courtesy of a 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers at Stadium MK.

Nine points separated the two sides prior to kick-off but goals from Leah Cudone, Kerry Newman and Kim Farrow extended that gap over the R’s, who occupy the second relegation spot, to 12.

The Dons, therefore, just need a point from their remaining five matches to secure safety for definite, although their far superior goal difference means they may not even need that - they have a +22 difference over QPR.

It took just nine minutes for MK Dons to open the scoring through Cudone, who combined well with Farrow before slotting past the R’s goalkeeper.

QPR levelled things up before half-time and then took the lead eight minutes into the second period but the Dons fought back to equalise courtesy of a stunning long-range effort from Newman.

Three minutes later, they edged in front through Farrow, who send a delicate chip over the goalkeeper after some good work by Cudone to win possession.

The Dons held on for the final 13 minutes to secure the victory which means it’s almost job done with five left to go.

They host Watford at Stadium MK this weekend where a point will be enough to secure their place in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division for next season.

Starting XI - Shults, Tullett, Barrett, Bright, Naylor, Newman, Horwood, Hughes, Chiarizia, Cudone, Farrow.

Subs - Kirby, Gooderham, Clarke, Wright, Gough.
