Hazard strike sees off Norwich

Amelia Hazard scores the only goal of the game as MK Dons Ladies overcome Norwich City...

6 November 2017

Amelia Hazard grabbed the goal which enabled MK Dons Ladies to defeat Norwich City 1-0 and close the gap on AFC Wimbledon at the top of the FAWPL South East Division One table.

The Dons controlled the game and had many opportunities to take the lead in the first-half. However, they had to wait until the 75th minute to make their possession count, when Hazard struck to put the Dons ahead.

The Dons comfortably saw out the game, limiting Norwich City’s chances in order to record another clean sheet.

Speaking after the game, manager James Honeyman was proud of his team’s performance and highlighted a few of the standout qualities. He said: “I’ve been really impressed with the girls’ resilience and how we’re seeing out these games without any real stress.

“There’s only one goal in it today but we were dominating and doing brilliantly – we know we should have scored more of our chances today.

“I’m really happy we have won and kept the run going, as it’s a long away day and you have just got to go there and win.”

While the result keeps the Dons in second place, they have closed the gap at the top of the table to just one point as AFC Wimbledon were defeated 3-2 by Stevenage.

Honeyman continued praising his team, referring to how the result against Norwich was just a continuation of the Dons’ impressive form.

He explained: “We’re absolutely dominating games at the moment, and we’ve now won nine of our last ten, and we’re unbeaten across all of those ten games, which is brilliant.

“We know we just have to keep winning games, which means we keep doing what we’re doing.”

The Dons now change their focus to the SSE FA Women’s Cup as they travel to face Ashford Town (Middx) on Sunday for their First Round tie.

Starting XI: Smith, Doyle (c), Burgess, Newsome (Naylor 75), Gillings (Roberts 70), Holland, Clarke, Hughes, Mills (McDonnell 65), Hazard, Loftus.

Goals: Hazard (75).
