Robbie Neilson ventured into the European market to secure the services of Belgium Under-21 international Maecky Ngombo.

Born in the Belgian city of Liege but of Congolese origin, Ngombo progressed through the youth ranks at his hometown club Standard Liege, signing professional terms in June 2013.

The young strike spent two years in the first-team before moving to the Netherlands in summer 2015 to join Eredivisie side Roda JC.

He made his debut for De Koempels in December 2015 and later that month he scored his first professional goal in a KNVB Beker quarter-final tie with SC Heerenveen.

Ngombo got off the mark in the Eredivisie in late January, bagging an 81st-minute winner against FC Utrecht after coming off the bench just three minutes earlier. He went on to score a further three league goals for Roda JC’s first-team that season.

Ngombo’s excellent form saw him called up to the Belgium Under-21s squad for their UEFA European Qualifier against Moldova – he played 78 minutes in the match, helping the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory.

In June 2016, Ngombo opted for a switch to Germany instead of renewing his contract with the Kerkrade-club. He joined 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, signing a two-year deal.

He has been limited to just eight appearances since joining Flingeraner so will be looking to earn more regular minutes following his switch to Stadium MK.
