Jordan Hadfield scored an 89th minute winner as MK Dons Reserves beat Luton Town in the Pontin's Holidays Combination at Woughton.

Jordan Hadfield's 89th-minute winner secured MK Dons a 1-0 win over Luton Town in the Pontin's Holidays Combination at Woughton.

Hadfield made a trademark break from midfield to slide home Jake Livermore's pass in the dying moments of a rain-soaked affair.

It was a deserved winner for a Dons side that had much the better of the game, playing with real quality at times given the sodden conditions.

The rain started to pour just minutes into the game, but Dons 'keeper Kurt Fox didn't let things slip as he made a terrific early save from Hatters midfielder Richard Langley.

Jake Livermore was outstanding for the Dons reserves against Luton.

Gareth Edds saw a low drive well saved, but the early stages of the game were ruined by the monsoon sweeping across the pitch.

As the rain started to ease before the break, Reis Ashraf missed a golden chance to give his side the lead - intercepting a loose backpass from Jake Howells before shooting straight at Town 'keeper Ross Faulds.

The slippery conditions were disrupting the flow of both sets of players, an extra touch needed with every pass to ensure crucial mistakes were avoided.

Livermore seemed to give it little thought though, cruising around the area just behind striker Ashraf and dominating possession in his domain.

Time and again the Spurs loanee bounced off defenders to create space for himself, incredibly hard to dispossess despite the treacherous conditions, and he nearly set up an opening goal for Edds on 55 minutes.

Luton responded well, with Darren Currie calling the tune in a similar position to Livermore, and when Howells made a clever burst from the right, the Dons again had Fox to thank for a save from point-blank range.

A long-range half-volley from Dean Hamilton just after the hour-mark was all Luton managed as the Dons took over for the final half hour - coming on strong as Edds and Hadfield took over the midfield battle.

Edds tried an outrageous shot from halfway that nearly caught Faulds napping on 64 before the Hatters 'keeper was forced to tip over a deflected shot from Ashraf.

Edds again had the goal in sight on 88 minutes when Livermore and Ashraf combined brilliantly to set him up, but the Australian was left frustrated as his rising drive flew just over the crossbar.

He needn't have worried, as Hadfield provided the winning contribution, with no small thanks to Livermore.

The young Spurs midfielder again strode through midfield as the Town defence backed away, before feeding Hadfield to his right.

The man on loan from Macclesfield turned brilliantly past Howells before sliding a low finish beyond Faulds.
