MIKE HAILS RAMPANT RESERVES
Academy Director Mike Dove hailed a professional Dons outfit after a thumping reserves win at Northampton.
Young striker Sam Baldock slammed an impressive double while Drewe Broughton and Matt Carbon also weighed in with goals to see the Dons to a convincing 4-0 win.
It was the reserves first win of the season in the Pontin's Holidays Combination as a mix of experienced pros and Academy scholars completely outplayed the Cobblers.
And Mike says the excellent approach of all those involved was the reason behind such an impressive showing.
He said: "We're very pleased, a clean sheet and four goals is a good return from a very professional performance.
"The good thing for me, compared to the Maidenhead game last week, was that we stayed on it for the full 90 minutes. Northampton worked hard but at times when we played one-touch with tempo we were difficult to contain.
"At half-time we talked about maintaining that tempo whereas in the Maidenhead game we took too many touches on the ball.
"We changed our shape in the second half to have a look at three in midfield. Scott (Taylor) and Sam (Baldock) had to do some disciplined defending and I thought they stuck to their tasks well."
While the likes of Broughton, Jordan Hadfield and Luke Howell gave the Dons an established look higher up the pitch, defensively it was a different story.
Scholars Miles Mitchell-Coop and Ollie Thorne plus under 16 Adam Chicksen made up three of the back four and Mike praised Carbon and 'keeper Nathan Abbey for guiding them.

Academy Director Mike Dove was pleased with the professionalism of the reserves. |
"It was a good defensive performance," Mike said, "and it was great again for the young lads.
"At the back we had Nathan in goal, Matt Carbon then two second years and an under 16.
"Credit to Matt and Nathan with the young players around them, their talking and encouragement was spot on and it's great for the young lads to learn from them.
"It was a great professional job from everyone involved. We had to keep going right until the end. We maintained our concentration and didn't let anything slip."
