ALIVE AND KICKING AT OCEANA

Milton Keynes was rocking this week as the Dons latest education programme kicked off with a huge media launch at the exclusive VIP suite in the City's Oceana nightclub.

The innovative programme which is funded by The Football Foundation and British Telecom involves Over 55s from Milton Keynes in using digital technology as well as encouraging them to get active through a variety of sport activities. The programme includes zumba dancing, short mat bowling, catacanoeing, archery and many other unusual ways to get active over 55.

The media launch today included a session on social networking introducing applications such as Facebook, Friends Reunited and Twitter where learners were able to look up old school friends and find new ways to keep in touch with friends and families.Over 55s let their hair down and showed they are are indeed very much 'Alive & Kicking' by taking part in a rock n roll session on the magnificent dance floor in the Icehouse room at the club.

MK Dons Sport and Education Trust are running the programme in partnership with Age Concern and was one of only five projects to be given this national media attention.A truly cross-generational project the older learners where helped by six youngster from the MK Dons Academy as well as recieving a surprise visit from Dons captain Dean Lewington, Assistant Manager Karl Robinson and Community Ambassador Paul Mitchell.

Ex England and Arsenal player Martin Keown attended in his role as ambassador for Communicating for Success on behalf of The Football Foundation.Martin praised the work of the Trust and described the work as 'innovative' commenting that he was impressed with the use of football to engage with the wider community; including the example of young people supporting the older generation to get switched onto digital technology.
