PELE CONCLUDES DONS SPELL

Posted on: Sat 04 Sep 2010

Cape Verdean defender Pelé has ended his short-term spell with MK Dons, after forming part of Karl Robinson's squad in the opening weeks of the season.

The former Southampton and West Bromwich Albion defender agreed non-contract terms with the Dons just before the start of the new season, providing much needed cover in the central-defensive position.

But with Mathias Kouo-Doumbé now available after suspension and Gary MacKenzie nearing fitness following a knee injury, 32-year-old Pelé will set his sights on pastures new.

Dons boss Karl Robinson said: "Pelé has shown an enormous amount of professionalism during his time with us, his attitude and the way he has conducted himself have been first rate.

"It was an area we needed to strengthen in the short-term because of suspensions and injuries and Pelé's efforts helped us to do that so we'd like to thank him for everything he has done and wish him all the best for the future."

Pelé joined the Dons just a day before the opening game of the League 1 season at Walsall and started the Carling Cup first round tie against Dagenham a few days later.

Having sustained a thigh strain on that night, the Portuguese-born defender remain in the Dons setup until his injury has healed, but will be free to find a new club following the closure of the transfer window on Tuesday.
