GLEESON IN WITH A SWINDON SHOUT

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

MK Dons v Swindon Town

Dons manager Karl Robinson is hopeful that Stephen Gleeson can resume training on Friday, potentially making himself available for the weekend visit of Swindon.

The Irish international midfielder, who had been operating at right-back prior to picking up a recent knock, was replaced by Mathias Kouo-Doumbé against Blackpool on Tuesday, with Danny Woodards moving to his more familiar role at full-back.

But after having his injury assessed this week, Gleeson could give Robinson an additional option both in midfield and defence against the Robins - the Dons first home league game of the new season.

Elsewhere, Robinson is likely to have the same squad to utilise against the Robins, with the game coming too soon for both Aaron Wilbraham (back) and Gary MacKenzie (knee), while Jude Stirling (groin) remains sidelined.

Robinson said: "Aaron Wilbraham will hopefully be back in full training on Monday and he'll have a full week of fitness with Damien Doyle because he's been out for four weeks. Gary MacKenzie has been running three times this week, which is great news for the big man.

"Stephen Gleeson was sent for a scan on Wednesday and hopefully he will be back in training on Friday, but we'll have to see how he's responding before Saturday."

Aaron Wilbraham

Aaron Wilbraham should return to training on Monday.

The exertions of Tuesday night's extra-time epic may well have taken their toll on the Dons players, who will be asked to play nine games in the next six weeks.

But Robinson insists every step has been taken to ensure the best recovery possible for every player.

He said: "We had a tough 120 minutes on Tuesday and most of them will have to play again, so we've got to make sure we get the balance right. You've got to get on the pitch and keep them ticking over, but you can't take too much out of an already aching body.

"We were in on Wednesday morning for an active recovery after the game, off today and back in tomorrow to make sure we're ready for Saturday."

Tickets for Saturday's game against Swindon are on sale from the MK Dons Online Ticket Service, over the phone on 01908 622900, from the MK Dons Box Office at stadiummk and the Box Office at thecentre:mk.
