ALBY ABSENCE NOT A WORRY - ROBBO

Posted on: Wed 28 Jul 2010

Dons manager Karl Robinson insists Aaron Wilbraham's lack of early pre-season action is no cause for concern - because the striker is in such great condition.

Thirty-year-old Wilbraham, a key player for the Dons in recent seasons, has missed the summer's first three friendlies with a mild back strain, but looks set for his first involvement as part of a Dons XI at Aylesbury on Friday.

The 6ft 3in front-man's return will be a welcome boost to his manager, who has already seen forwards Sam Baldock, Jermaine Easter and Jabo Ibehre find the net this summer.

He said: "Alby's had a bit of a stiff back, but he played 30 minutes behind closed doors at Dundee so he has had some match time.

"Along with Stephen Gleeson and Sam Baldock, he came back as one of the fittest players in the squad. If he'd come back unfit, I'd be pushing him through these early games, but he came back in great condition so I don't need to force the issue with him.

"Training on hard ground just left him with some stiffness in his back so we've wrapped him in cotton wool, as we have tried to do with all of them because the important thing is that they're fit on the 7th August."

An MK Dons XI will take on Aylesbury FC at Haywood Way on Friday evening, kick-off 7.30pm. Click here for further details.
