MANAGERIAL MIX PERFECT FOR ALBY

Posted on: Tue 01 Jun 2010

Dons striker Aaron Wilbraham reckons the Club's new managerial team could provide the perfect blend for success in League 1 next season.

While boss Karl Robinson, at 29, will be the Football League's youngest manager at the start of the 2010/11 campaign, number two John Gorman boasts a wealth of experience built during spells with England and the likes of Tottenham, Southampton and Queens Park Rangers.

Add to that the big-game know-how of first team coach Alex Rae and the Dons have a coaching setup that could steer them into an exciting promotion push.

Front-man Alby said: "I think there's a good balance between the three of them - Karl has got fantastic ideas, a lot of enthusiasm and is a brilliant coach; John Gorman's experience is second-to-none; and Alex Rae has been there and done it at the highest level as a player.

"It's Karl's first job in management, but he's already surrounded himself with some very good people, he's passionate about the Club and that can only be good for everyone at Milton Keynes Dons.

"We all had meetings with the three of them before we went off on our holidays and it was a good chance for us to talk. They made it clear that they want the team to be challenging for promotion next season and that's exactly what we want to be doing as players so we're already on the same page. The Championship is where everyone wants to be."

Gold blend: Alby reckons Robbo, John and Alex will be a great managerial mix for the Dons.

As the Dons' second longest-serving player, Alby has seen his fair share of managerial change during his five years with the Club. Robinson's regime with be the sixth the 30-year-old hitman has worked under since joining from Hull City in July 2005.

But unlike on previous occasions, Robinson's promotion from assistant manager under Paul Ince offers an element of consistency that has been missing in recent years.

Alby said: "It'll be better for all the lads coming back after the summer knowing what they're coming back to. This will be the sixth managerial change in the time I've been here, but it's different this time because there'll be some continuity.

"It's reassuring for people because a completely new manager would come in with his own players in mind and nobody is entirely sure how much of an impression they need to make.

"With Karl, people will already have a good idea of where they stand and that should help us to hit the ground running in pre-season."
