Milton Keynes Dons FC is delighted to announce that former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann has joined the Club in a role as player-coach.

The 36-year-old Bavarian has signed a one-year deal at stadiummk to become the latest edition to boss Karl Robinson's squad ahead of the 2010/11 season.

A finalist with Germany at the 2002 World Cup and a 2005 UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool, Hamman joins the Dons after a year out of football following his release from Manchester City.

He will take on a dual role at stadiummk - working primarily as a member of the playing squad while lending his wealth of football experience to Karl and his coaching staff.

A two-time winner in each of the German Bundesliga, the UEFA Cup, the English League Cup and the FA Cup to go with his Champions League triumph, Hamann becomes the most decorated player in MK Dons history and arrives in Milton Keynes looking to add a new dimension to his glittering career.

At international level, he won 59 caps for his country and scored five goals, including the last ever goal at the old Wembley Stadium in Germany's 1-0 win over England in 2000. He was part of the German squad at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, as well as the European Championships in 2000 and 2004.

Dietmar Hamann

Dietmar won the Champions League with Liverpool in the famous Istanbul final of 2005.

After joining Bayern as an amateur in 1993, Hamann's performances earned him his first professional contract in 1995 as he went on to win a host of honours with the Munich giants, including two Bundesliga titles, both German domestic cups and the UEFA Cup in 1996.

Following a successful 1998 World Cup in France, Didi joined Premier League side Newcastle United for £5.5million and adapted superbly to the English game, scoring five goals in 31 appearances from midfield to become one of the most sought-after players in the division.

It was Liverpool that showed the firmest interest and paid £8million for Didi's services in 1999. It was at Anfield that he truly established himself, making nearly 300 appearances in seven years with the five-time European champions. During his time with the Reds, Liverpool won a much-celebrated Cup Treble (League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup) in 2001 and staged the most stunning comeback in Champions League Final history to overcome AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005.

After a brief spell with Bolton Wanderers in 2006, Hamann moved to Manchester City in a deal worth £400,000 and went on play 71 games over a three-year spell. He was released last summer and now joins the Dons to begin a dual role as player-coach.
