SEANO GETS A HEAD START

Posted on: Tue 27 Apr 2010

Dons defender Sean O'Hanlon will get a head-start on his team-mates for the 2010/11 season, having already started his pre-season training programme.

Having achieved his objectives for the current campaign as part of his comeback from a long-term knee ligament injury, Sean will play no part in the final three games of the Dons' season - instead starting his preparations to hit the ground running in the summer.

The decision should give the 27-year-old centre-back an advantage ahead of the new League 1 campaign, where he will look to make a full-blown return to first team action from the first whistle.

Head of Sports Medicine Simon Crampton explained: "Sean worked incredibly hard during his rehab and returned to action, as expected, towards the end of February.

"Given that he would be lacking match fitness, our target was for him to feature at some point before the end of the season and not only has he done that, he's made six appearances including 90 minutes in a very demanding game at Norwich recently.

"Sean would obviously love to be involved in the final few games, but we've got to consider what would be best for him in the long term and starting his preparations for next season now should mean he'll be on the same level as everyone else at the start of pre-season."

Sean injured his knee during a League 1 game against Walsall in April 2009 and went on to spend 10 months on the sidelines before returning at Yeovil in February.

His strong recovery saw him go on to make two further substitute appearances against Leyton Orient and Gillingham, while playing substantial proportions from the start against Charlton and Oldham as well as his 90 minutes at Carrow Road.
