MK Dons were one of only three clubs highly commended in the E.ON Family Club of the Year categories at Sunday's 2010 Football League Awards incorporating FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players.
But it was Huddersfield Town who took the title of E.ON Family Club of the Year for League 1, in front of 900 attendees from clubs, sponsors and the football industry at the Grosvenor House in London's Park Lane.
The Dons were one of five clubs shortlisted for the award in League 1, alongside the Terriers, Norwich City, Southend United and Swindon Town. And the submission put forward by Dons' officials impressed the judges enough for them to hand out one of only a trio of commendations across the League's three divisions.
Swindon were the other club honoured in League 1, while the Championship title was taken by Reading with a commendation for Leicester, and the League 2 award went to Shrewsbury Town.
Huddersfield's winning League 1 entry included the launch of a new 'Family Information Centre' at The Galpharm Stadium. Situated just outside the stadium, it offered families a first port of call on matchdays for any information they may need before the game. Also catching the eye of the judges was the 'Fantastic Family Stand' which not only lives up to its name by offering fantastic value for money season tickets aimed at families, but also has activity such as face painting, jugglers, free-gifts, balloon modellers and interactive branding that includes a chance for children to measure themselves against the team's goalkeeper! The Club have teamed up with 200 schools in a successful '7's scheme', whereby children are invited to a game on their seventh birthday and given a free replica shirt.
Meanwhile, Dons midfielder Peter Leven was beaten to the PFA Player in the Community award by Bradford City defender Zesh Rehman.

Peter Leven was nominated in the PFA Player in the Community catergory at Sunday's ceremony. |
Peter had been shortlisted as a result of his fantastic fundraising efforts for Help for Heroes, the Football League's official charity partner, throughout the current campaign.
The quality and depth of the community work undertaken by Rehman has been outstanding, to such an extent that it is hard to summarise everything he has done. Zesh excels in public speaking and has spoken to schools and colleges in and around the Bradford area. In addition, Zesh is an Ambassador for the Club's Princes Trust and Kick It Out projects, and has also entered the Show Racism the Red Card Hall of Fame.
His influence as an Asian footballer is portrayed through such campaigns and helps raise children's aspirations showing children can achieve their dreams, regardless of their race.

Commenting on the 2010 Football League Awards, Football League Chairman, Lord Mawhinney, said: "Once again, these awards have given us the opportunity to honour those clubs and individuals whose commitment to the game or their local community goes beyond the call of duty.
"The fifth Football League Awards have been an enormous success, and I congratulate all the winners on their achievements."
The number one spot in the FourFourTwo Top 50 Football League Players went to Newcastle United's striker Kevin Nolan. Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United was the highest ranked Coca-Cola League 1 player and Craig Dawson of Rochdale the best from Coca-Cola League 2.
