MK DONS U18 1 BRISTOL CITY U18 1

Under 18 report by Ali Bunker

Mike Dove's Under-18s were left to rue missed opportunities as Bristol City snatched a draw at Woughton on the Green on Saturday.

Charlie Collins' 33rd-minute opener - his 13th goal of the season - was cancelled out by a Pat Sayce header but, having seen his side miss a host of good chances, Mike was left frustrated.

Ashley Harrison had to be at his best to tip over an effort from Sayce early-on, before an effort from Joe Lennox flew wide of his post moments later. From that point onwards though, the home side were to dominate.

Martel Powell came close to opening the scoring when his looped header from Justin Dowling's cross hit the bar and, moments later, Dowling was involved again as his half volley from the edge of the area flew just wide of Tom Bradley's post.

Dowling was even closer with his next effort - rifling against the crossbar from fully 25 yards as the home side began to wonder if the ball would find the net.

That changed after 33 minutes though as some excellent hold-up play from Powell allowed George Baldock to get a shot in on goal and, as Bradley palmed away the effort, Collins was on hand to tap home from close-range for a deserved lead.

The Dons were quickly on the front foot after the break - Collins and Powell combining well, with the aid of captain Adam Chicksen, and Collins was mere centimetres away from connecting with the cross as he desperately lunged in search of a second.

Powell and Collins both missed chances to extend the lead before Harrison was drawn into a rare piece of action, denying Lennox with a superb diving save and tipping over from the resulting corner.

But after Powell wasted a glorious opportunity following good work from George Williams down the right, Harrison was helpless to prevent Sayce levelling matters as he thumped home a header from a Lennox corner.

For Mike it was a bitter pill to swallow after having seen his side perform so well for the majority of the game.

He said: "It should have been 3-0 by half-time; we should have been out of sight. But we'll get the boys back onto the training ground on Monday and get on with it, working on the end product a bit more."

The Dons' next fixture is away to Arsenal, but Dove claims that is not cause for concern.

He added: "We go to Arsenal next but I'm not too worried. We've been there before and beaten them so we can do it again. We just have to make sure we work on our end product and take our chances better."

Dons (4-3-3): Harrison; Williams, King, Milton, Chicksen (c); Lee, G. Baldock, Dowling; M. Powell, Collins, McGovern (Ahmed 85).

Subs not used: Bragg, Farden, Ivey-Ward, S. Powell.
