Dons star Peter Leven's Help for Heroes challenge received a massive boost this week, thanks to the efforts of two young Dons fans.

Midfielder Peter, who pledged to donate £5 to our injured troops for every goal the Dons score this season, has received widespread backing since his campaign began, with team-mates, supporters and sponsors all coming forward with cash contributions at www.justgiving.com/peter-leven

But 10-year-old Owen Addison and 11-year-old James Patton have gone one step further - embarking on a two-mile sponsored swim to raise a fantastic £600 towards Peter's efforts!

Owen and James' contribution, hard-earned after 178 lengths in the pool, successfully pushed Peter's total over the £5,000-mark, with the latest figure standing at £5,294. Online betting giants Betfair have pledged to double the final figure thanks to our friends at The Sun newspaper.

The two youngsters were on hand at Saturday's game against Exeter to present Peter with a cheque towards his collection, leaving the Dons man lost for words at their generosity.

He told mkdons.com: "I'm speechless. For these two boys to go and do something like that off their own backs for charity is absolutely unbelievable. They're a credit to their families and their parents should be very, very proud.

"Breaking the £5,000-mark is a great milestone to pass with half of the season still to go, so hopefully the boys can keep banging the goals in and people will continue to be as generous as Owen and James.

Leven's fundraising efforts for Help for Heroes have now broken the £5,000-mark.

"I'm sure we can get to £10,000, which would equate to £20,000 with the Betfair promise, so we'll be going all-out for goals in the next few months."

You may decide, like Peter himself, to make a donation for every goal the Dons score this season and make regular contributions as you go. You might decide to make a one-off pledge for the season as many have done already. Or you might want to wait to see what the Dons' total is at the end of the campaign before you donate. Whichever way you choose to get involved, make sure you check the Gift Aid box to ensure the tax from your donations will also go to Help for Heroes.
