LEVEN: TIME FOR SOME REAL HEROES

Posted on: Tue 08 Dec 2009

MK Dons v Yeovil Town

MK Dons midfielder Peter Leven says the team should feel privileged to play in front of some genuine heroes on Saturday as the Club hosts its first ever Armed Forces Day.

The Dons take on Yeovil Town at stadiummk in front of a host of current and former servicemen in a celebration of Britain's brave men and women defending the nation at home at abroad.

The event will feature a number of activities to honour Britain's brave military personnel and to raise money for Help for Heroes, the Football League's official charity partner for the current season.

It will be a special day for Peter who, as a proud Brit and a huge admirer of Britain's Armed Forces, began his own fundraising campaign back in October when he vowed to donate £5.00 to Help for Heroes for every goal the Dons scored this season.

And the Glaswegian's fantastic efforts, which have already passed the £2,000-mark, are set to receive a massive boost with all proceeds from Saturday's game going through his donation page www.justgiving.com/peter-leven

Peter said: "Saturday should bring it home for all of us how fortunate we are to have the best Armed Forces in the world. The job these guys do for Queen and country is unbelievable and the Yeovil game will give us all the chance to say thank-you.

"I've always admired their bravery - Britain has men and women all over the world putting their lives at stake to keep conflict away from our doorsteps and their sacrifices are often forgotten.

"But not on Saturday, on Saturday we all have the chance to show them our appreciation and I'm sure the MK fans will be out in force to show just how grateful they are."

With his fundraising campaign already well off and running, Peter hopes contributions from supporters on Saturday can make a big difference as he looks to raise as much as possible for Help for Heroes this season.

Dons goals are costing Peter £5.00-a-time this season as he donates generously to Help for Heroes.

And he says he couldn't be happier about the Dons' recent goal-rush as it will mean more money for a very worthy cause.

He said: "The goals have been flying in a bit recently, but I've told the boys to keep banging them in, even if it costs me a few quid! I'm not bothered about the money, I don't care if they fleece me for a couple of grand - it'll be worth it.

"There have been some tragic stories of soldiers coming back from military service missing legs or with post traumatic stress disorder and it's important they're looked after when they come back.

"That's what Help for Heroes are all about - looking after the people that have been injured sacrificing their wellbeing for this country.

"A massive thank you to everyone that has contributed so far and to everyone who contributes on Saturday. Your donations are hugely appreciated."

If you'd like to show your support for Peter you can do just that at www.justgiving.com/peter-leven. Whether you're representing a company, a supporter group or just making a personal contribution, all donations will be gratefully received, no matter how big or small. Make sure you also leave a message of support to spur Pete and the team on for the rest of the season.

You may decide, like Peter himself, to make a donation for every goal the Dons score this season and make regular contributions as you go. You might decide to make a one-off pledge for the season as many have done already. Or you might want to wait to see what the Dons' total is at the end of the campaign before you donate. Whichever way you choose to get involved, make sure you check the Gift Aid box to ensure the tax from your donations will also go to Help for Heroes.
