Winger Luke Chadwick could be set for a return to action this weekend, giving Dons manager Paul Ince a major boost ahead of the trip to Southampton.

The former Manchester United and West Ham wide man has been out for nearly four weeks with a thigh strain picked up at Oldham last month - an injury that halted an impressive start to the season for the influential 28-year-old.

But, having resumed full training with Paul Ince's squad on Thursday, Chadwick will be part of the travelling party that heads to the south coast for Saturday's clash at St Mary's.

Ince confirmed: "Chaddy trained today and he's fine. The thing about Chaddy is that he's naturally very fit so we haven't really got to work on his fitness.

"He's come in today and not looked out of place so he's certainly in contention for Saturday."

Chadwick's potential return would leave Ince spoilt for choice in wide areas, with Jason Puncheon, Jemal Johnson, Aaron Doran and the fit-again Lewis Gobern all competing for places.

It also brings Ince's list of injury concerns to a season-long low, with just three players now sidelined compared to the horrendous number that greeted his arrival in the summer.

Danny Woodards has resumed running with Club physios this week, but is expected to remain out of action for the next few weeks with ankle trouble, while Jude Stirling is still out with a groin problem.

Defender Sean O'Hanlon is progressing well in his comeback from a knee ligament injury, but is expected to be out until the New Year.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been out since the visit of Walsall at the back end of last season and is currently on schedule with his rehabilitation.
