Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo admitted his disappointment at missing the chance to go top of League 1 tonight, but understood the decision to postpone tonight's game at Peterborough.

Referee Kevin Wright called off the meeting of the two promotion challengers after a lunchtime pitch inspection, deeming the London Road surface unplayable following freezing weather conditions.

It means the Dons will have had a 15-day break by the time they host Colchester United at stadiummk next Monday (kick-off 7.45pm). But the flip-side of that will be potential fixture congestion later in the campaign.

Robby told mkdons.com: "I'm disappointed because it would have been a chance for us to go top tonight. I hadn't realised until someone pointed it out to me yesterday, but it would have been nice to have the opportunity all the same!

"The problem it causes for both us and Peterborough is with the fixtures. The schedule is very tight in the coming months and it's going to mean a busy week somewhere down the line.

"But the referee had to make a decision based on the players' safety so I understand why he has decided to call the game off. We'll refocus our energies into the Colchester game next Monday."
