PETERBOROUGH GAME POSTPONED

Posted on: Mon 12 Jan 2009

MK Dons' League 1 clash at Peterborough United, scheduled for tonight (Tuesday January 6), has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Match referee Kevin Wright performed a pitch inspection at London Road at 12.45pm following freezing weather conditions in the last 48 hours and decided the surface would not be fit for play come the scheduled kick-off time of 7.45pm.

The game had already been rearranged from Saturday due to Peterborough's involvement in the FA Cup Third Round, and will now be rescheduled to an alternative date.

Referee Mr Wright told Peterborough United's official website: "The temperature is currently at zero and the pitch at the present time is still frozen.

"There are soft areas, but there are also areas where you can't even put a key into the ground, so in my mind, the first thing I have to think about as a referee is the safety of the players and the game as a spectacle.

"The one big aspect is if we sanctioned play and something happened it would be a disaster. Looking at the MET Office report, we are going to hit minus-four at 4.00pm and that is still nearly four hours away from the proposed kick-off.

"The pitch is unplayable now, so it is only going to get worse."

mkdons.com will keep supporters advised as to the fixture's rearranged date. All tickets purchased in advance will be valid for the rearranged game.
