League 2 Player of the Year Keith Andrews thanked his MK Dons team-mates after receiving the award on Sunday, and said it could have been any one of them taking home the prize.

Dons skipper Andrews, 27, collected the gong at the Football League Awards in London as the top-ranked League 2 player in FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players.

It comes in the middle of a fantastic season for the Dons' midfield talisman, who has led his team to the top of the division and the club to its first Wembley appearance next month in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

But captain Keith says nice though the award was to win, his team-mates would have all be worthy winners.

He said: "I was up against some very talented players so to win it was a very nice accolade.

"But there are numerous people in our team that could have won that award and, I know it's a cliché, but it's a team game.

"If the team hadn't been playing so well I wouldn't have been recognised for what I've been doing.

"There are a number of players in our team that have had fantastic seasons. I'm the one who's been given the credit but, make no mistake about it, I appreciate everything they do.

"I don't normally get nervous but when they mentioned the shortlisted names my heart was beating a little bit faster and I was delighted when my name was called out."

Andrews agrees that this season has probably been the best of his career so far and says it has a lot to do with the style of play brought in by manager Paul Ince.

He said: "I'd say it's the best season I've had, apart from maybe the first season I broke through at Wolves, definitely in terms of goals and consistency of performance.

"That's down to the team and the management because I think the way we're playing suits my game.

"The Gaffer gives us licence to go out, express ourselves and play football in the way we want to play.

"He wants us to get the ball down, pass it at high tempo and attack teams at speed which gives us all the belief we can beat anyone on our day."
